living room concerts
A message from Robin Lane:
“I’ve been performing in homes and art galleries throughout New England, New York, Chicago, California, and Washington for over 4 years now. These solo acoustic performances are opening a whole new horizon for me, and I’d like you, my fans and friends, to be in on it. It’s been a wonderful experience and great opportunity for me to connect up close and personal with all of you who have supported me over the years and for us to do something really fun together.
I play about 6 songs and then read from my memoirs … very interesting but risqué stuff … not for children. Then we take a break and I come back with 8 or so more songs. I bring percussion instruments for those who want to join in, and if anyone has a guitar or flute or recorder, they can join me in a few songs. I often will make up songs on the spot from lyrics contributed by your guests.
For all us folk that can’t get out too well in the evenings any more, these performances can be early in the evening and can be in the middle of the week or a Sunday afternoon. The entire event will last for about a couple hours.”
If you want to Robin to come to your town here is what you need to do:
1. Find a venue. It can literally be your living room, a church, an art space or a legion hall. Hopefully something you don’t have to pay for.
2. The way to pay Robin is to think of 15 to 30 people who already know her music or whom you would like to introduce her to and send them a flier or just call them. Posters will be sent to you to either put up around your town or office, or you can just have your friends come. Suggest a $15 to $20 donation per person. Robin will be selling her CD’s as well. If she has to travel further than 100 miles please ask for the $20 donation.
3. If you don’t mind strangers in your living room or you find an art gallery or another venue, we can coordinate press and/or radio coverage for the event. We can work together on this and we will be happy to help you plan.
4. Anyone who’s interested in having Robin in their living room can email, robinlanemail@gmail.com and we can discuss the details.
The whole idea of having Robin doing a living room concert for you and the people you know is that you will be hanging out and getting to know each other. Just like any party, it takes a little planning to make it a success. Start a month in advance and follow up with your guests. Make it into a potluck dinner or serve some type of refreshments yourself.
To get all these people into your living room…move the coffee table into a bedroom…borrow some folding chairs, use the kitchen chairs, put pillows on the floor. Give the artist a corner. Make sure to inform folks to arrive promptly at say 6:30. Get everyone into their seats by 7. Now, thank everyone for coming and introduce Robin.
Have a house concert with Robin Lane feedback:
- We recently held a house concert in our back yard with Robin Lane (ex of Robin Lane & The Chartbusters) and forty of our friends. I was and still am amazed at how great of a show she puts on, Robin read from her memoirs about her early life living in LA back in the 60′s. Her memories of hanging with Danny Whitten, Neil Young, and Steven Stills had everyone listening. I loved the story she told of how one night Steven had come in from a riot scene in LA, sat down and began writing For What Its Worth he finished it that night, the Springfield immediately recorded it and it was on the radio the next day. She has a wealth of stories and talent and seems to really love performing for a crowd, all of it was done for her charity with people donating 15 to 20 bucks each. If you are interested check out her Facebook page Robin Lane Rocks or songbirdsings.org – Pete Sullivan.
- “Still in wonder over the whole weekend. Amazingly personal commitment to us in the audience and the songwriters you sponsor. Your life as an artist has become even more significant to me now as a teacher as well as a writer/ performer. I’m so fortunate to be invited into ANY of this. Hot sand, cool water.”
- “Hi Robin! What a great time we had with you last night listening to your stories, your music and sharing memories! Thank you for being you and sharing yourself with us! “Hot sand, cool water, sky out of reach”~~~~~Sues and Pete or Petes and Sues
- “I can’t thank you enough for doing the concert, people are still talking about it and saying that it ranks right up there for musical/entertainment experiences. I am trying to think of other ways to promote the idea, Any thoughts on doing it in a small club venue?” Scott Wilkinson
- “Having Robin play with my friends at a House Concert we set up, changed their lives. They are playing in a band now and never stop talking about that special night” Allen Amaretto
- “The house concert with Robin Lane was an exciting and uplifting alternative to clubbing, I not only was surrounded by my friends, but I got to hear my favorite songwriter, singer Robin Lane right in my living room and we even raised money for her programs.” Suzanne Boucher
- “I had always been a fan of Robin Lanes but had never seen her. She came up and did a House Concert on my deck in Vinyl Haven Maine. My friends brought food and we ate and listened to Robin read and play her wonderful songs. I loved the way we all got to play percussion on her songs.” Dr. Rich Entel
- “Being great fans of Robin Lane & The Chartbuststers and seeing that she did House Concerts, my friends and I decided to bring her out to Chicago. We met her at the airport showed her around the town and the next night around 40 of our friends came to our living room for a remarkable evening. We had her back 2 years later for music in the back yard. She let everyone who brought an instrument play with her. The night was magical.” Nick Sanadinos, Jim Kopriva
